Best Drill Bit set under $35

I'm currently looking to purchase a drill set for my newly purchased HITACHI DS18DL CORDLESS HAMMER DRILL. (btw...what an incredible drill!)

Although I work for a general contractor, we sub-out most work so I won't use these drill bits more than 2-3 times a month. Hence the reason I don't buy a $100+ professional set by a company like Triumph, Cleveland, etc. I also don't see an immediate need to purchase an expensive set of cobalt bits. For my purposes (and I think for the general user), a set of relatively inexpensive titanium coated bits will do just fine.

I did consider getting the Hitachi 728119 Quick Change 20-Piece Drilling and Driving Set to match my Hitachi Drill but was discouraged by reviews saying the drill bits were unusually weak and would break easily. According to Amazon.com, the most popular drill bit set is the Milwaukee 48-32-1500 Quik-Lok 38-Piece Hex Shank Drilling and Driving Bit Set. Again, we see comments of inferior quality, "I have owned this kit for 6 months now and I'm down to 3 out of the 5 drilling bits. The 2 offenders snapped off like twigs." (G Hartman) I found similar reviews on all Dewalt, Milwaukee, Hitachi, Bosche steel and titanium bit sets.

So I decided to find inexpensive cobalt drill sets. Found this set Jetform JET 21-Piece Cobalt Drill Bit Set w/ Indexed Steel Case, but couldn't find one review for it.

Then I found it, my future drill bit set:
Milwaukee 48-89-0045 13-Piece 1/16-Inch to 1/4-Inch Cobalt Twist Drill Bit Assortment in Metal Index. Read the reviews. Clearly people are satisfied with these drill bits. For $25 you get 13 bits - not nearly the amount you get with the Dewalt, Milwalkie, and Hitachi steel and titanium sets. But this is definitely a case where quality reigns supreme. The $25 price from Amazon is very affordable.

I'll give a week or so before I buy it. What do you think?

The Creation of Wonderful purchases

In this blog I will walk you through my thought process as I purchase everyday items.

When I purchase something, I research four things (1) reviews - official and unofficial, (2) dependability, (3) performance and (3) price. And whenever I have the opportunity I will experiment with the product first-hand. With this information, I'll do my best to persuade you and myself why I've chosen the product. I'm starting this blog because nothing is as satisfying as a good purchase.

I don't have millions of dollars, so this is not the right place to look for advice if you have unlimited resources. Simply put, this site is about getting the best for the least.
